Australian Institute of Horticulture Inc. Awards 2025
To further our mission to promote horticulture and its practitioners the Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH), and our award sponsors, recognise the contributions of individuals and organisations whose personal initiative and achievement define outstanding performance in their field.
This year we are having a smaller awards ceremony and are calling on nominations for Student of the Year and Horticulturist of the Year.
AIH is very proud to honour all our great Australian Horticulturists. Please don’t hesitate to nominate recipients for our awards.
AIH Australian Horticulturist of the Year

The AIH Australian Horticulturist of the Year (HOY) is an award that offers a unique opportunity to publicly recognise an outstanding AIH member. By profiling the excellence of AIH members in this way it is hoped to both inspire and challenge horticulturists in their practice and to promote their skills and achievements to the public. This Awardee is recognised for their outstanding contribution to a horticultural project of merit, including horticulture education or horticulture media.
Presentation of the Award will be at the 2025 AIH Annual Awards Event on Saturday 27th September 2025 at The Union Bank Restaurant, Orange NSW.
Who can be nominated?
This Award is open only to AIH Horticulturists, Registered Horticulturists and Corporate members.
Judging Criteria
Nominations will be judged upon the following broad criteria:
- Originality, innovation or quality of horticultural work,
- Meeting the client’s brief,
- Meet community, environmental & social considerations,
- Large projects, small projects or parts of projects are equally eligible,
- Judging will be on horticultural merit & not related to the scale of the project.
- Awardees will agree to be an AIH Ambassador or assist AIH as key personnel for 12 months post the award.

This award is given to a horticulture student in Australia who has shown exceptional talent in their studies and/or contribution to the community. It is sponsored by the AIH Fellows Group.
Who can be nominated?
The Award is open to all students currently undertaking or recently completed an acknowledged Certificate III level qualification in Horticulture with any University, TAFE or Training Organisation and is available to all students with no age barrier, be a current full or part time student – or have graduated in the past 12 months.
Nominations must be through the student’s educational institute. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Judging Criteria:
- A student who has shown that their input into the industry will provide benefits to the Horticulture industry.
- Shown a strong interest in the study of horticulture that has extended their current knowledge and expertise.
- Judging will be on horticultural merit and graduate’s success.
Submission Information:
Before entering support must be sought from the horticulture teacher/trainer or College Principal to enter the Award.
Teacher/Trainer Referee Report – At least one referee report – to include:
- Student’s innovation and commitment to the industry,
- Quality of horticultural skills and knowledge,
- Diversity of the student’s skills and knowledge.
