Like all well-established organisations, guilds and Institutes, AIH has its own Gold + Silver Award recipients who have earned their coveted AIH Honours award.
Every year the Australian Institute of Horticulture hold its Annual National Awards and Dinner where a variety of awards are presented. There are 2 significant awards, The Golden Wattle and The Silver Gum..
The Golden Wattle
Established in 2010, the AIH Golden Wattle is an honour of significance to an outstanding horticulturist. This is the highest award of industry recognition to be given to a horticulturist whose practice has advanced the profession of horticulture in Australia.
The stunning Golden Wattle artwork representing the AIH floral emblem , Acacia pycnantha – or the Golden Wattle – was designed by Annette Irish FAIH and commissioned by AIMS Pty Ltd who continued to be the sponsor until 2019.
All recipients received this honour for their contributions to the profession and hold a unique presence as an horticulturist. Their innovative approach and dedication to horticulture have advanced the profession, increased recognition of gardening to the public and enhanced horticultural events in various forums.
Nominations for the Golden Wattle are considered by the AIH Awards Committee for presentation at the Annual Awards Night.

The Silver Gum
The AIH Silver Gum is a significant and prestigious AIH Honours award. Fashioned after the flowers and buds of the Eucalyptus crenulata (Silver Gum), the artwork, designed by Annette Irish, was commissioned by Horticultural Training in recognition of a Past President’s dedicated and committed representation on behalf of AIH.
In 2015 the award was redefined with new criteria that may include recognition of the support of exemplary projects, work and promotion of horticultural advancement and application by an individual, company or not-for-profit organisation
Nominations for The Silver Gum are considered by the AIH Awards Committee for presentation at the Annual Awards Night.
