Beekeepers in southern Queensland are being urged to regularly check their hives as varroa mite draws closer to the Queensland border.
Varroa mite, which affects honeybees, has been detected around Boggabilla, Legume, Drake and Byron-Lismore regions in northern New South Wales. View the map HERE.
Early detection of varroa mite will help slow the spread through Queensland.
Beekeepers should closely monitor their hives and immediately report unusual signs (like deformed bees or dead brood) by calling 13 25 23.
Varroa development officers provide free support to recreational and commercial beekeepers and clubs. Email varroa@daf.qld.gov.au for more information.
