Australian Horticulture Remembers the late Hazel King OAM, FAIH, with Prestigious New Graduate Scholarship
The Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH), supported by the Berry Garden Club, NSW, are proud to launch the Hazel King Memorial Scholarship, a new initiative that honours the life and legacy of Hazel King — a beloved figure in the Australian gardening community and a passionate advocate for horticultural education and community engagement.
Hazel King spent her life nurturing not only gardens, but also the people who cared for them. A respected horticulturist and tireless volunteer, Hazel dedicated over 50 years to supporting gardening clubs, mentoring emerging professionals, and encouraging the joy of gardening at all levels. She was a familiar face at community events, a regular contributor to gardening publications, and a trusted advisor to countless home gardeners and industry peers alike.
Her warm spirit, encyclopaedic plant knowledge, and unwavering belief in the power of gardens to connect and heal communities made her a treasured member of the horticultural world.
This annual scholarship seeks to honour her legacy by supporting graduate students who are following in Hazel’s footsteps — those who demonstrate a commitment to horticulture, community connection, sustainable practices and the ongoing enrichment of gardening culture in Australia.
Through this scholarship, Hazel’s passion for plants, people, and community will continue to bloom in the next generation of horticulturists.
