Horticulturist Membership

The foundation membership level of horticulturist provides recognition as a professional horticulturist.

Membership opens up varied opportunities for projects and referrals. Horticulturists are entitled to use the post-nominal MAIH after their name.

Registered Horticulturist

The Registered Horticulturist program recognises AIH members who are senior practising horticultural professionals in the field. Their skills, experience and reputation are highly regarded amongst their industry peers.

The member holds a higher degree of competency and has the backing of an internationally recognised program.

AIH actively promotes Registered Horticulturists to be specified as a requirement for government and private sector contracts.

Retired Member

A Retired member is a member who has held membership with the AIH for ten or more years. The retired member can apply to the AIH to maintain membership and their professional standing.

Retired members may use the post-nominals of either MAIH (Ret), MAIH RH (Ret) or FAIH (Ret) after retirement.

Graduate Member

Graduate membership provides a pathway from student to the foundation level of horticulturist member. It is also open to those students who are furthering their studies after achieving their first qualification of AQF level 3 or above but don’t yet meet the requirement of post qualification industry experience.

The subscription fee is subsidised by AIH to be an affordable annual rate.

The AIH support structure will provide support or mentoring for the graduate whilst they develop industry experience.

Horticultural Education Provider

AIH is committed to and promotes the development of young horticulturists through the national network of training providers who deliver and assess horticulture training and education courses. AIH nurtures horticulture teachers and support staff by providing access to our member network and industry support.

Horticultural Education Providers who are signatories to the AIH Alliance agreement have access to complimentary AIH membership for their horticultural students and teachers .

Please note that The HEP Alliance is not a membership level a mutual alliance agreement with set terms, conditions and benefits for both AIH the Alliance entity.

Teachers

This new membership category is to support teachers of horticulture and allied industries, to promote the benefits of AIH membership, and enhance the membership as Australia’s leading guild of industry professionals across all sectors of horticulture.

The annual subscription fee of $99.00 (January 2026) is sponsored by AIH.

Free membership is available to teachers within the faculty of horticulture and allied industries of a signatory to the AIH Horticultural Education Provider Alliance . The free membership is available for two years while employed as a teacher. Refer to your institute regarding their status as a signatory to the Alliance.

‘Once you complete your Cert III or above and become a graduate you may apply for the new Hazel King Memorial AIH scholarship that is being launched May 2025’.

Student

Student membership is open to all students in their first horticultural qualification equal to, or above, the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate level 3 (as of 2023) or other such level 3 qualification that the AIH Management Committee may approve.

Membership fee for academic year of 2026 is $33.00

Free membership is available to students within the faculty of horticulture and allied industries of a Horticultural Education Provider who is a signatory to the AIH Alliance . The free membership is available for two years or until graduation, whichever is the lesser.

Students

Payments and Renewing

Membership subscription and renewals are all made online.

We accept most major credit cards.

Companies may request a tax invoice before joining, please contact members@aih.org.au

Members, Registered Horticulturist, Graduate and Retired Memberships are renewed for one year on July 1st.

Students and teacher memberships are based upon the academic year of January 1st to December 31st.

If you join after 6 months and 1 day all subscriptions are reduced by 50%,

For Members, Registered Horticulturist, Graduate and Retired Memberships ONLY if you join after May 1st you will receive 14 months subscription to the end of the following financial year.

AIH is registered for GST and all subscriptions include GST.
